How to Measure Your Thumbnail

It’s Easy, I Promise! 💖

1. Grab a flexible measuring tape, a piece of clear tape or a strip of paper and a ruler. Millimeters only—precision is the whole point.
2. Measure the widest part of your thumbnail straight across, from sidewall to sidewall. Don’t wrap around the curve—measure the flat distance from edge to edge. Mark both edges on the tape or paper.
3. Remove the tape or paper, lay it flat and use your millimeter ruler to measure from one mark to the other. Write the measurement down to the decimal—for example, 13.4 mm. That single number is your key to every chart below.
4. Check your measurement against the set you love. Every product listing shows the largest thumbnail included. If your measurement is at or below that number, you’re in range. If you’re within approximately half a millimeter of the maximum, expect a snug fit.

Between sizes? Size up. A slightly wider nail can be gently filed along the sides for a more comfortable fit. Never force a nail that feels tight or pinches.

Measurements are taken manually and may vary slightly—approximately ±0.5 mm. Width, curvature and sidewall coverage work together to determine fit.

Width Is Only Part of the Story 💅

Two press-ons can have a similar straight-across width but sit differently on the same natural nail. The difference may be curvature.

Curvature is the side-to-side arch of the nail when viewed from the fingertip. Your natural nail has a curve, and every press-on shell has one too.

When the curves are compatible, the press-on sits comfortably from sidewall to sidewall without being forced. When they aren’t, you may notice pinching, rocking, lifting or visible gaps. If the curvature of the press-on does not match your natural nail bed, it can create gaps, lifting and popping off—even when the measured width appears correct.

That’s why the Snazzi Fit™ system considers both width and curvature.

Identifying Your Nail Curvature

Step 1: Look From the Fingertip

Use a bare natural nail without a press-on attached.

Hold your fingertip at eye level with the free edge of the nail facing you. You should be looking at the nail’s cross-section—not down at the top of your hand.

Step 2: Compare the Side-to-Side Arch

Low Curve (Curvature)— Flat Nail Bed

The nail appears almost straight from side to side. A press-on with too much curve may feel tight, pinch at the sidewalls or require pressure to sit down. A Flat Nail Bed has very little to no arch. From the fingertip view, the nail appears nearly straight across.If you place a highly curved press-on over a Flat Nail Bed, the nail may not make even contact. The sides may touch while the center leaves a gap—or the center may touch while the sides lift.

Look for: Products categorized as Low Curve.

Medium Curve (Curvature) — Natural

The nail forms a gentle, balanced rainbow from one sidewall to the other. This is the middle curvature category and may be compatible with many standard press-on shells.

Look for: Products categorized as Medium Curve.

High Curve (Curvature) — Deep C

The sides of the nail curve downward more noticeably, forming a pronounced arch or C-shape. 

Look for: Products categorized as High Curve.

Signs of Proper Fit for your Press-on Nail

Before applying adhesive, place the press-on gently over the natural nail.

A compatible press-on should:

• Cover the nail from sidewall to sidewall
• Rest evenly without being forced
• Avoid pinching or painful pressure
• Avoid large visible gaps
• Remain stable instead of rocking from side to side
• Stay off the surrounding skin

Do not use adhesive to force an incompatible shell to fit. Try another width or curvature category instead.

Why Two Sets May Fit Differently

Differences can result from:

• Shell curvature
• Width assortment
• Nail shape
• Sidewall design
• Construction or thickness
• Manual measurement variation

That doesn’t mean your measurement changed. It means every set should be compared using both its measurements and curvature category.
